Finding Me - Introduction

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

Something was sparked inside of me as I lay on the massage table. It had been a rough day and I had already shed a few tears as my RMT, Susan (not her actual name), and I chatted. Susan is not your typical massage therapist. I told her recently that going to see her is like going to have coffee with a friend. I have only ever known her as my massage therapist, and yet we are on the same wavelength regarding so many topics of conversation and of life itself. On this particular day, I mentioned, as I had before, that my husband should write a blog. He is a quadriplegic and has been for over two decades. I told of how he is such an inspirational person because of what he has come back from and all that he does. He doesn’t let anything stop him. If there’s something that he wants to do, he finds a way to make it happen.

It was then that Susan said, “Why don’t you write a blog?” I was in disbelief at her question and responded with a question of my own, “What do I have to write about? I haven’t done anything special in my life.” She sounded incredulous as she responded, “What do you mean? You have SO much to say! You have been on a path of self-discovery for quite some time. You do the work! You don’t just talk about it. You walk the walk.” Immediately tears trickled down my cheeks. It was as if someone had finally seen me - seen and honoured all that I had been doing over the past years to make myself a better person. This acknowledgment not only caught me off guard, it somehow validated that what I was doing was working.

It’s not as if I started this journey to gain any kind of recognition for anything I was doing. Far from it. It has only ever been an expedition of self-exploration; one to help me become a better person; healthier mentally, physically and spiritually. I am seeking contentment, to be at peace with who I am and to love myself no matter the circumstance.

So, why write a blog you ask. How does doing so aid me in my journey to becoming a better person? Well, for starters, I’ve always wanted to write, and until this point I hadn’t done anything about it. Now, I am certainly not labeling myself as a writer just because I started a blog, but I do enjoy expressing myself this way and I see it as an opportunity to improve my writing skills. As well, I will be doing research on the various topics I choose to write about, which will in turn promote further understanding of, and personal growth in, these areas.

Lastly, I hope to build a community who will share their experiences and pass on the names of their treasured resources to help others grow. It means a lot to me that you have taken the time out of your day to read my first ever blog post and I hope you will join me again as I continue on this journey Finding Me.
