Abraham Hicks – The Law of Attraction

While I don’t remember exactly how I came to know about Abraham, they have been a part of my life for, I would say, about three years now. If you’ve never heard of them - yes, I said them – they are a collective consciousness who channel themselves as one through a lady named Esther Hicks. In the book Ask and it is Given, by Jerry and Esther Hicks, Esther translates Abraham’s thoughts and ideas explaining that they (Abraham) are, “…multidimensional and multifaceted and certainly multi-consciousness.” (p. xxvi) Esther explains that she receives blocks of thoughts and then is able to provide an English language equivalent. In the book, Esther does a brilliant job recounting her discovery of Abraham channeling through her. If you wish to listen to a recording of how Esther and Jerry’s relationship with Abraham began and how it has evolved, you can use this link to get there: www.abraham-hicks.com

Before reading Ask and it is Given, I had listened to the teachings of Abraham on YouTube every day for an entire year. Each video is generally just under 15 minutes and I found that it was a great way to end my day finishing it with positive thoughts and valuable teachings before drifting off to sleep. I guess I kind of treated it like a meditation. There are SO many amazing lessons about life to be learned. Being that there are so many, I am only going to focus on one for this post.

The lesson I will talk about, and it’s a biggie, is The Law of Attraction - the most powerful law in the universe. I have learned through Abraham that thoughts release vibrations. I would never have believed this 20 years ago, but I wholeheartedly believe it today. In trying to explain how all this works, Abraham asks one to liken these thought vibrations to radio signals. Just as you would have to tune in to the correct frequency on your radio to pick up a desired station, your vibrational frequencies must match in order for you to manifest your desires (p.25).

Think about a day when everything seemed to go your way. The song on your alarm that woke you up on a particular morning was one of your favourites, your kids or partner made you breakfast, you got out the door for work a few minutes earlier than usual and so decided to go to the Starbucks drive thru. A friendly stranger decided to perform a random act of kindness and bought your drink for you and you only hit green traffic lights during the rest of your commute. This, I’m hoping, would leave you in a pretty good mood. I bet because your day started this way, the rest of the day followed suit and went by super smoothly; you smiled and laughed often throughout the day and nothing rattled you even if things didn’t go according to plan, all because you were in a positive head space.

While this is all wonderful, the Law of Attraction also works to the contrary. If we adopt a negative mindset, and focus on something that is wrong, unwanted or missing in our life, we will also attract more of it. This time, picture a day where things didn’t go so well. Your alarm was set to p.m. instead of a.m., so you got up late. The last bit of your favourite cereal had been consumed by someone in the house and now you had to eat something unfavourable. You hit all of the red lights on the way to work and were almost late. Because you were in this negative space before even arriving at work, the day just seemed to snowball. Sound familiar? Maybe the events were different, but you get the idea. The thoughts that we as humans put out there and the mood we tend to be in becomes reflected back to us as the lives we live.

The great news is that you are in control now that you know this, and you get to choose how your life rolls out. The more you think about whatever you think about, the more it will show up in your life - positive or negative. If there is something in your life that you’re not happy about, you’re constantly worrying about or that you’re lacking, focusing on it is not helping. You need to change your thoughts. Find something to be grateful for. Tune into a memory of a favourite vacation, think about someone you love and what you appreciate about them, spend some time with a pet or take a nap. Do something to change your vibration. Use your mood as your guide. If you are feeling joyful, peaceful, playful or calm, if you are excited about life and what the day has to offer, you will attract more in your life to be grateful for. You will attract what you desire.

A personal example of this whole Law of Attraction thing is how I brought my husband into my life. Before we reconnected I had been single for a long time, I mean a long time. I went five years without so much as a date. I didn’t know why I wasn’t meeting anyone I was interested in, but I wasn’t. Looking back and knowing what I know about the Law of Attraction, clearly I wasn’t focusing on the right things. It’s not like I was unhappy being single (most of the time anyway) and I’m certainly not saying one needs to be in a relationship to be happy, I’m just telling my story. One day I did what I had heard a person should do to attract someone into their life – make room for them as if they were already there. The article said to make space in your closet for their clothes and set the table for them at meal time. At one point in my life I thought this was silly, but after being single for five years, I was ready to give it a try. While I didn’t set an extra place at my table (to be honest, I didn’t even have a table), I did make space in my closet for him. In addition, I wrote the following on a sticky note, “I am in love, truly, madly, deeply.” I have to tell you that within six months I reconnected with the man who is now my husband. I changed my focus to what I wanted as if I had it, not what I lacked - and it worked!

Another example is when I bought my vehicle just over a year ago. I had been researching, test driving and comparing SUVs for a year and a half before I was finally able and ready to go ahead and make my purchase. When the big day finally arrived, I pre-paved how I wanted things to go. That is to say that I decided that I was going to have fun making my phone calls and that I was going to enjoy the process. Also, that I would negotiate a really good price that I would be happy with. I have to say that I really did have a pleasurable experience and everything went according to what I had planned out ahead of time. I 100% believe that things worked out so well because not only did I pre-pave how I wanted things to go, but that I was in a positive emotional state while doing it. Abraham says that you won’t get what you want by simply desiring it, but that your frame of mind has to be positive in order to attract it. It goes back to the whole vibration thing mentioned earlier. I was in complete alignment!

Have I mastered getting all that I desire? Not yet, but I certainly have seen it in action. When I look back on my life, it truly has shaped up to match the repeated thoughts I’ve had over the years. It is pretty powerful stuff knowing what I am capable of and that I truly can bring into my life all that I desire. I look forward to the future knowing that I am its creator. Take note of your own life and how things have gone. I bet if you are honest with yourself as you reflect that you will find that your life is also an example of The Law of Attraction.
